A Place of Refuge:
Proverbs 9:9-10 “The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know You now will put their trust in You. For you, LORD have not forsaken those who seek You.”
I got a call recently from my mom asking that I pray for a cousin who was undergoing surgery right at that very moment. The prospect of “cancer” had raised its ugly head. My cousin doesn’t know the LORD in the sense that she has never acknowledged her sin and relied on what Jesus did at the cross to save her from the penalty of that sin. So, she doesn’t “know” the LORD though she knows ABOUT Him. As I was doing my devotions following this call, the above verses came to my attention. My heart ached that my cousin not only be ok physically but that she comes to see the LORD as this place of refuge.
In the original language, “refuge” is defined as “secure height”. I was listening recently to the news on the tragic Mid East war where a battle was raging in some small town from which observation could be made from a great distance while positioned on top of this hill. That’s just what a place of “secure height” does-it enables us to see danger approaching from a long way off and yet keeps us safe and secure at that height. That is what the LORD wants to be in my cousin’s life. That’s what He wants to be in your life too!
