God in the Night Watches
I have recently been involved in a time of prayer and fasting for my son and his wife who are missionaries with Campus Crusade for Christ in Puebla, Mexico. It never ceases to amaze me what happens during times like this. What amazes me more is that I AM amazed at what happens since God in His Word clearly indicates the blessings that come from surrender to Him in this way.
A very real blessing for me and the topic of this blog today is the times of the “night watches”. During an extended period of fasting over a year ago, I found that God would often wake me up at night-the night watches- to pray about specific things. I would always wake up with a person or situation on my mind and with the sense that this was indeed from God and initiated by Him. These were precious times between God and me and when that extended fast was over, I missed those times as they didn’t seem to come as often as before.
In this last week, while fasting and praying, I found again that God would wake me up during the night watches. I found myself eager for that opportunity to pray knowing I was praying for exactly what God wanted me to pray for! God knew what He was doing when He indicated in His Word, WHEN (as opposed to IF) we pray and fast. He knew it would bring us to a place where He could meet us so up close and personal. I thank Him for those times.
